Our horse and donkey rescue is a vital component of our Equine-Facilitated Wellness program. We rescue horses and donkeys from slaughter, abuse or neglect. During rehabilitation they are fully integrated into the "Dawn of Equus" therapy herd, providing the opportunity to heal and help heal. Once the horse or donkey is ready he or she is adopted out to a carefully selected home.
All of our rescues are examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, de-wormed and have their hooves trimmed. Many rescued equines have not had regular hoof care so multiple visits by the farrier are sometimes necessary. The expenses to rescue and rehabilitate a horse or donkey often exceed what can be reasonably asked for an adoption fee.

Donkey Sanctuary
We are in the process of starting up a donkey sanctuary that will include a donkey rescue, fostering program and promotion of donkey welfare. Elderly donkeys and those with special needs will be given a life-long home at the sanctuary. The sanctuary will be modelled after "The Donkey Sanctuary" based out of the UK. Sponsor a Rescued Horse or Donkey
As mentioned above, the rescue and rehabilitation of a neglected or abused equine can be quite costly. "The Dawn of Equus" gratefully accepts donations to assist with these expenses (veterinary, farrier, feed, etc.).
We will also be starting an "Adopt a Donkey" program through our Donkey Sanctuary. Stay tuned for more information.
