Empowering Horses: A Journey of Discovery

"I will put my all into this, and give my best, so that these horses, with their friendly

nature, will judge me kindly, and so that harmony reigns, carried by the

total unity of two living beings."

This workshop will challenge the essence of how we, as humans, perceive and relate

to the "Others" with whom we share this earth. We will look at where we are in the

evolution of the horse-human relationship, including viewing the dvd "The Path of the

Horse" by Stormy May. The innovative work of Imke Spilker and Carolyn Resnick will

then be introduced as approaches to connecting with horses that are mutually

empowering to horse and human. Safety when working with horses at liberty, including

in a herd setting will also be discussed.

This workshop is not about a particular training method per se, but rather about

creating a deep connection with the horse based on trust, respect and honouring the

horse as a sacred being with his own culture, way of perceiving the world and unique

soul gifts and purpose in this lifetime. The horse is given a "voice", including the ability

to say "No". Self-expression is encouraged rather than viewed as disobedience.  This

helps foster a true partnership and mutual empowerment.

This workshop is suited for those with horse experience seeking deeper connection

with their equine friends as well as those with little or no horse experience.

It is hoped that this workshop will plant a seed of possibility for self-discovery and

growth as well as making this a better world for the horse.

By Embracing a "Beginner's Mind" You will Embark upon a Journey of Discovery while

"This inspirational documentary explores the future of horse-human relationships and

ultimately all human relationships. As our culture evolves from domination over nature into a

partnership, we see this change being reflected in the work that people are doing with

horses...Horses have a gift to share; teaching us how to develop community, leadership, trust

and love within our own families through a connection that goes beyond words. 'The Path of

the Horse' takes an honest look at what we're doing with horses today and asks, 'Is this the

world we want to create?"

(Both Carolyn Resnick & Linda Kohanov are featured in this video)

We will then focus on the amazing work of Imke Spilker as presented in her book:

"Empowered Horses: Learning Their Way through

Independence, Self-Confidence and Creative Play"

From the Introduction:

"Learn how to come into harmony with the horses' world- step-by-step. When you

become open to their totally different viewpoint you give their world a new reality:

everything becomes more spacious, more open, more free. A relationship with

horses in freedom entails discovering a piece of your own freedom too. Your

thoughts will head in a new direction You will orient yourself anew."

We will also touch on the work of Carolyn Resnick (focus of future workshops)
